The '13th Five-Year Railway Development Plan' clearly proposes to strengthen information construction, build smart stations, and improve station service levels, including requirements for navigation systems and smart parking.

As an important transportation hub in Southwest China, Guiyang North Station undertakes a large number of passenger transportation tasks every day. The introduction of the AR navigation system has become a necessary means of information construction. Since its launch on May Day,the AR navigation system has been running stably,withover 65,000 passengers accessing the navigation system, with a peak daily visit exceeding13,000 times,providing comprehensive navigation services for passengers, improving station service levels and passenger satisfaction. It alsowon the Guiyang Gui'an 2023 Excellent Digital Application Scenario Honor.

Customer Overview and Needs

Guiyang North Station is located in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China. It is a comprehensive transportation hub integrating railway, subway, bus and other transportation modes, and is also the main passenger distribution center in Southwest China. Guiyang North Station is one of the main passenger stations of the Guiyang railway hub, one of China's 19 major comprehensive railway hubs, and the 'heart' of Guizhou's high-speed rail network.

As an important transportation hub in Guiyang City, a large number of passengers wait and travel here every day. However, due to the large distribution and high passenger flow in the station, traditional navigation methods can no longer meet the needs of passengers. Therefore, the Guiyang North Station AR navigation system was born.

System Functions

Electronic Map

Provides a lightweight and high-precision electronic map, allowing passengers to quickly understand the layout and location of various functional areas of Guiyang North Station, including ticket halls, waiting halls, commercial areas, etc. Common public facilities are fixed to the quick navigation bar.

Indoor Navigation

Automatically plans the best route based on the passenger's input destination and current location, and provides text and voice navigation services, allowing passengers to quickly and accurately reach their destination. The navigation process is accompanied by voice turn reminders, security check reminders, and escalator safety reminders, providing a thoughtful travel experience.

AR Navigation

Using augmented reality technology, real scenes are displayed through the passenger's mobile phone screen, and navigation information is marked on the screen, allowing passengers to intuitively understand their location and the direction ahead. Passengers can see virtual guiding arrows and voice navigation in real time on the real-world images through their mobile phones, just like having a dedicated navigation guide accompanying them throughout the journey, greatly enriching the user experience.

Personnel Positioning

The personnel positioning function helps station managers to understand the location of personnel in the station in real time, which is conducive to monitoring and dispatching passenger flow. At the same time, in case of emergency, the personnel positioning function can also provide important information support for evacuation and rescue.

Electronic Fence

By setting up electronic fences in the area, safe and unsafe areas are divided according to the actual situation. When personnel are detected entering unsafe areas, the system will automatically issue an alarm to remind relevant personnel to deal with it in time, ensuring the safe operation of the station.


Area Heatmap

The passenger flow heatmap shows the passenger flow and distribution in each area with color blocks of different concentrations, allowing you to intuitively see the location of high-flow areas. According to the heatmap, the accident risk in each area can be confirmed, and safety protection can be prepared in advance for the area.

Visitor Visualization Data

Provides visitor visualization data function for Guiyang North Station. By collecting and analyzing user usage data, it helps understand user behavior and needs. This data can help Guiyang North Station optimize services and management, improve operational efficiency, and also provide data support for decision-making.

The Guiyang North Station AR Navigation System was officially launched on May 1, 2023, becoming the first railway navigation system in Guizhou to apply augmented reality technology.
